For the third time in three years, Marengo Community High School was listed by US News and World Report as one of the top 100 high schools in the State of Illinois. For 2014, MCHS ranked 70th in the state and was the 5th smallest public high school in the state on the list which was not an academy, magnet school or prep school. MCHS was the only McHenry County high school on the Top 100 list out 708 high schools in the state. Fourteen of the top one hundred schools are selective academies, prep schools or magnet schools making MCHS’s rank even more impressive. The rankings are based upon a number of different criteria including class size 18:1; college readiness as measured by the percentage of students taking and passing the Advanced Placement Test; and math and reading average proficiency based upon our students performance on the PSAE test and other criteria. MCHS had 60% of its students proficient in math and 66% of its students proficient in reading both of which were well above the state average. The students and staff are to be congratulated on this outstanding recognition.
