Auto II Students Learn Amazing Skills

Auto II students have been working very hard at completing their painting projects. Mr. Long has taught them some amazing skills. All of the completed projects are absolutely astounding and are on display in the school next to the auto shop. Stop by and take a look at these projects; the pictures don't do them justice! »

Artist In Residence - February and March

Congratulations to Amy Sticha for being chosen as the recipient of the Artist-In-Residence award for the month of February. Amy has been doing an outstanding job in Sculpture class.

Anna Tennant received the Artist-in-Residence award for the month of March. Anna sculpted a beautiful horse's head out of clay in her independent art class. »

MCHS Preschool Program

The MCHS preschool program is operated through the MCHS Family and Consumer Science department. This program has been a part of the curriculum for over thirty five years. It is devised as a class for juniors and seniors who have completed a Child Development course. »

New Website for Parents

The McHenry County Mental Health Board has just launched a new website, which provides resources for individuals, families, and agencies concerned with behavioral health related issues.  It provides information about services in McHenry County, local, state and federal laws, as well as informative articles and communication tools.  This website is a very beneficial tool in providing knowledge and assistance in receiving services for behavioral health.  The website is:   »

Freshmen Mentor Program

Thank you to the over 80 applicants who applied to be a Freshmen Mentor next year. Letters will be given to each applicant indicating their selection as a Mentor for the class of 2013.  All mentors will be required to attend two training days over the summer.  Those dates will be provided at a later time.

Lightning Prediction System Made Possible by MASEF Donation

Marengo Community High School District #154 has installed a THOR GUARD lightning prediction and warning system on the concession building in the middle of the athletic fields at the high school. »

MCC Promise

The McHenry County Community College (MCC) PROMISE is the biggest community funded initiative in the history of MCC. In fact, it's one of the largest privately funded community wide initiatives in McHenry County. »

Multicultural Club

The Multicultural Club (MCC) is taking a field trip to Chicago neighborhoods on April 29th. We will be visiting Chinatown, Greek Town, the Pilsen neighborhood and the National Museum of Mexican Art, the DuSable Museum of African-American History, and finally the Ukrainian neighborhood and its beautiful Ukrainian church. The first year for the club has been very successful. We are anticipating many more members next year.

CNA Students Pass the Illinois Competency Exam

Congratulations to last semester's CNA students for passing the Illinois Competency Exam for Nursing Assistants, the last step in becoming a CNA.

Charis Adlam, Erin Brown, Stephanie Daley, Amanda Geuder, Shelby Smith, Katie Thalman, and Melanie Zielke have successfully completed 80 hours of Theory, 48 hours of Clinical at Florence Nursing Home and passed the state competency exam! »

English Department News

The importance of ongoing curriculum development cannot be understated; it is the key to continued student growth. This year the English department has been working hard to modify the curriculum to better serve our students. Guided by Cecilia Franks and using the ACT College Readiness Standards, the teachers have designed a skill based curriculum which will improve both reading and writing, preparing them for college and beyond. The process has been challenging, yet rewarding for all of us. »

Turning Red Into Green

HOSA is partnered with the American Red Cross to host their 3rd blood drive for the year on April 17th. The blood drive is open to students and community members age 16 and older. All MCHS students must have a signed parent permission slip to donate no matter what age they are. The American Red Cross has offered HOSA an opportunity to turn all of their hard work coordinating the blood drives and other community service projects into money for college. »

Congratulations to Erin Brown, Jessica Diaz, Katelyn Finnan, and Melanie Zeilke for placing 2nd in the state for Creative Problem Solving at the Illinois HOSA's 31st Annual Leadership Conference last month. The team was presented with a scenario and given 30 minutes to convene and develop a strategy to address the problem. They then presented their strategy to a panel of judges. The competition included schools from all over the state and included secondary and collegiate levels. More than 400 HOSA students participated. This recognition qualified the team to compete at the national level this summer in Nashville, TN. We are all looking forward to the trip. »
