Consolidation Feasibility Study Discussions

On September 24, 2007, the Marengo Community High School Board of Education considered a formal request from members of the District #165 Board of Education to jointly participate in a consolidation feasibility study. A member of the District #165 Board addressed the MCHS Board followed by a presentation by District #154 Superintendent Dr. Dan Bertrand, which focused on the implications of consolidation. The MCHS Board asked questions and after careful consideration voted 6-1 against participating in the study. »

Parent Teacher Conferences Oct. 24th & 25th

Marengo Community High School has scheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences on Wednesday October 24th and Thursday October 25th from 12:30 to 8:00 p.m. We have expanded our conferences to two evenings to better accommodate the schedules of our families. During these times, parents can pick up their student’s 1st Quarter Report Card, meet with teachers, and talk with their guidance counselor. Additionally, individual student achievement data will be available from the October 5th practice PLAN and ACT tests. »

Parent Volunteers Wanted

Marengo High School routinely forms committees to evaluate and improve different aspects of the school such as curriculum, extra-curricular activities, discipline, and attendance. In this technological age, computers, email, and text messaging have made our lives easier. But for teenagers and their parents alike, these advances can also make life a little more stressful. High school is a difficult time for many, especially when trying to navigate the social aspects that go along with the academics and extra-curricular activities. Many teens agonize over being accepted by their peers, and many teens fall prey to spreading gossip and rumors in order to be part of a certain crowd. »

Summer Women’s Club Art Camp

This school year Elizabeth and Jacob each won a scholarship from the Marengo Women’s Club to attend a summer art camp. Elizabeth attended the Northern Illinois University art camp and stated her time “was a lot of fun and she improved her portraiture skills.” Elizabeth appreciated the scholarship from the Marengo Women’s Club.

Jake enjoyed the variety of activities at Eastern Illinois University and is thankful for the opportunity to meet his fellow artists. Jake received the Illinois State Women’s Club Scholarship.

It is because of the generosity of local organizations like the Women’s Club that our students have the chance to explore their talents. »

Illinois High School Theatre Festival

Marengo Community High School will be sending a group of students and staff to the Illinois High School Theatre Festival at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois for the very first time this January 10th through January 12th.

The Illinois High School Theatre Festival is the largest & oldest non-competitive high school theatre festival in the world. The three-day Festival takes place every year in early January, and switches locations annually between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State University. Each year, over 4,000 students, teachers, university representatives, exhibitors, and volunteers come together for three days to put on over 25 different high school productions and over 150 workshops. Other highlights include college/university auditions for high school seniors, professional development for teachers, a student film festival, and the annual All-State Production, featuring student cast, crew, and orchestra members from across the state. »
