Marengo Community High School (MCHS) District #154 is excited to announce that Erin Merryn, of “Erin’s Law,” will be coming to speak to the students and staff on September 10, 2015. This presentation will be an all school assembly that will occur in the gym from 2:10 pm - 3:00 pm. Not only will Erin be sharing her personal and powerful story of survival and inspiration, but she will be educating students on sexual abuse prevention and sharing available resources for follow-up support.

“Erin’s Law” has recently been passed by the state of Illinois mandating that all public schools educate students on a yearly basis regarding sexual abuse and assault prevention through age-appropriate curriculum including role plays, discussions, activities, and videos. The purpose of these activities is to give children the tools needed to speak up and tell an adult if anyone has ever touched them inappropriately.

Nationwide, 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be the victim of some type of sexual abuse by the time they reach age 18. Through this program aimed at educating and empowering students, we want to provide your child with the knowledge and skills to use if ever affected by sexual violence.

If you have any questions about the content of this program, please feel free to contact Mrs. Joyce, at 815-568-6511 x1373 or at To find out more about Erin Merryn or “Erin’s Law”, please visit »
